Yesterday, I went to the Macao Cultural Centre to watch a drama called "The Village". It's a drama directed by a worldwide famous Taiwanese director called LaiShengchuan.
It's a story telling about the life of the people escaping from mainland China in 1949 during the war. When they first stepped on the land of Taiwan, they were so young and had no idea about the future. At first, they all believed that they would be back to the mainland soon, however, as time passed, they gradually realized the hope of back home is vague. Accepting the truth, they began to treat Taiwan as their hometown and gradually fall in love with this second home.
History is something we can't change. Facing the history, we are all very small and weak. After watching the drama, I feel so fortunate that I live in a time period that I have no idea what war is. However, if you know the truth is unchangeable, what you can only change is your attitude towards it. Though at the beginning they all miss their home, the people from different provinces and shares different cultures gradually learnt to live in harmony together. It's their optimistic attitude made the strange village became more and more like a big family.

After this drama, I had a new understanding of what hometown is. Of course, the place where you was born and grow up should be your hometown. However, a lot of people grow up in more than one city, so where should be their hometown? At first, these people missed their hometown in the mainland so much because the people they love are there, their memory are there. However, when they settled down and created families, they build new memories. They have their offspring there, they are also people they love. Therefore, Taiwan become their new hometown.
Now, considering myself, I have been studying in Macao for almost 2 years. I made a lot of new friends there and enjoyed the new life and culture. I am creating my new memory here. I am sure after the 4 years study, Macao will be my second hometown too.
